Calcutta Sketches

Calcutta Sketches is the result of French artist Jacques Servières' beautiful engagement with Calcutta.

Servières has travelled to many cities of the world. Wherever he goes, he captures the city. These sketches of Calcutta bring alive the sights and sounds of the bustling metropolis. While there are monuments of the past, the past of the city lives in its present. The artist's portrayal of Calcutta's rickshaw-walla and yellow taxi will be etched in our mind forever.

The French illustrator-sculptor Jacques Servières is the man behind the open air sculpture garden on the banks of river Marne in France.

A small fisherman's stool, a fine pen and a large sketchbook - that's all he needs to discover "Incredible India". These three elements are essential to translate his emotions onto the sheet of white Canson in different environments. Hurrying quickly and with great excitement, he hastily draws the different scenes that this country offers him with all its charm and colours.
