Vasanthi Raman

Vasanthi Raman trained as a sociologist/social anthropologist at the Department of Sociology, University of Bombay from where she received her doctorate. Between 1996 and 2010 she was a professorial fellow at the Centre for Women's Development Studies, New Delhi and also Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla between 2007 and 2009.

She was a Member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research between 2008 and 2011.

From December 2012 and July 2014 she was Professor, Department of Women's Studies, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalay.

Her areas of interest are communalism and gender, childhood studies and issues of transition and perspectives of subaltern groups and communities.

A participant in many national and international conferences, she also organised important national conferences.

She is an independent scholar and is associated with many activities of the Centre for Women's Development Studies. She is currently a member of the governing board of the Centre for Women's Development Studies, New Delhi and is Honorary Chairperson of the Centre for Women's Development Studies which is an autonomous body affiliated to and supported by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR)
