This book intends to accentuate not only the cultural influences on the production of sexuality, but also reveals that these sexualities have an equal impact on the development of traditional cultures. It provides an overview of many existing sociological studies on homosexuality and homosexuals. We understand sociology in a broad sense and do not hesitate to have recourse to the whole of social and historical studies participating in the development and consolidation of queer studies. In the same way, “homosexuals” are not seen as a restricted group defined in an unambiguous manner, but also the plurality of the social mechanisms that organizes, supervises and regulates the desire for same sex. Homosexuality is not considered as a homogeneous reality but a space of identification passed through many differences based on social classes, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages and generations.
